Pecan Harvest 2024 is Here!

Harvest is officially underway at our Baucum Pecan orchard near Keo, Arkansas. We have already harvested two of our early varieties, with so much more to come. New crop pecans are ready and available for purchase at our store location, Baucum Nut House, or online. Come and visit us for all your pecan needs. 

Ever wonder what all can be done with pecans besides snacking and pecan pie?  The list is long.  Take the scene in Forrest Gump when Forrest (Tom Hank’s character) hears everything about shrimp from his army buddy Bubba Blue.  Bubba says, "Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it.”  Then Bubba continues his listing as they change the “army” tasks they are doing: “Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.”   Just substitute pecans for shrimp and add all delicious desserts that highlight pecans. 

While pecan stew or a pecan burger might not be a common thing, pecans are very versatile. They work well in baked goods and treats. They are delicious additions to salads. They make wonderful savory snacks when plain, roasted or seasoned, with any blend you can think of. Beyond snacking they can be used in main dish recipes, just give it a quick online search. Because of their versatility they make great gifts for the upcoming holidays or as host/hostess gifts for Thanksgiving, Christmas or any holiday parties.

An opportunity to celebrate the pecan and all of its potential can be found at the Keo Pecan Festival on Saturday, December 7, in Keo, Arkansas. Baucum Nut House will have a booth, selling pecans in many forms. While we’d love for you to come pay us a visit at the Pecan Festival, we are also available 8:30 AM-5:00 PM, Monday through Friday and 8:30 AM- 1:00 PM on Saturdays.   We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but will be open regular hours on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.  Of course, our online store is available for shopping 24/7.
